ABOUT DAVID GORDON

Since his operatic debut with the Lyric Opera of Chicago in 1973, David has forged a distinguished and innovative international career as opera and concert singer, recitalist, voice teacher, and seminar presenter.

"A virtuoso singer and actor," (Salzburg Nachrichten) on the operatic stage, David has performed 59 principal operatic roles with the Metropolitan Opera; San Francisco Opera; Chicago Lyric Opera; Houston Grand Opera; Washington Opera at the Kennedy Center; Hamburg Staatsoper (Germany), and many other international companies.

A concert artist of international stature, he has appeared as featured guest soloist with virtually every major North American symphony orchestra, and with other prestigious orchestras and music festivals on four continents. His concert repertoire spans eight centuries of music and eight languages.

Praised as "One of the world's great Bach tenors." (Chicago Tribune) David has been heard worldwide in hundreds of performances of J. S. Bach's music. As soloist, lecturer, and master class presenter, he has appeared at every major north American Bach Festival, and at Bach festivals in Europe, South America, and Japan.

David is also a prolific classical recording artist, and appears on 17 CDs for RCA Red Seal, Decca, London, Telarc, Dorian, Newport, and Vox.

In addition to his performing career, David is a dedicated teacher, coach, and vocal mentor. Students in David's private studio include professional singers on major operatic and concert stages of North America and Europe; soloists in musical theater, jazz, and pop; voice-over and commercial artists; and actors on stage and TV.

David is also a dynamic, entertaining, and inspiring master class presenter, known for his vocal workshops and his innovative group/choral vocal seminars. With every group and private student, David shares his good humor, his artistic insight, and his first-hand understanding of vocal technique and singing onstage.

David Gordon has served on the music faculty of Sonoma State University, San Francisco State University, and the University of California, Berkeley. Now on the year-round staff of the Carmel Bach Festival, he maintains a busy private voice teaching studio Carmel, California. He is married to Ginna B. B. Gordon, an artist and cookbook author.
